The Seed Award for Educational Technologies for Development (SET4D) aims at promoting the development of promising researchers in developing countries in the field of Educational Technologies and ICT4D, through offering opportunities for learning, visibility and networking.

SET4D is promoted by seed, a Swiss-based non-profit enterprise that promotes the development of a culture of educational technologies in international development and cooperation.

The Award is supported and hosted by AECT, the Association for Educational Communications and Technologies, a leading association in the field known in the US and internationally.

Procedure

The SET4D will be assigned to the first or main author of a paper selected through an open call and a strict peer-review process.

Participants will submit a paper presenting their latest research results in Educational Technology for Development in their specific national or transnational context. Submitted studies will be applied in nature, emphasizing a “theory to practice” approach, supported with empirical data. Successful papers will deal not only with technologies, but will include a socio-economic development component, focusing on the role of educational technologies in fighting poverty.

In particular, the SET4D committee is looking for studies related to the following topics:

  • Fine-tuning of instructional design, instructional development, and social acceptance models in specific contexts
  • Integration of new technologies for education in low-technology settings
  • Sustainability and replicability studies of learning technology approaches in developing countries
  • E-learning at different education levels (primary, high-school, continuing education, teacher education, vocational training) and in different sectors in developing countries.
  • Impact of educational technologies in educational and non profit organizations in developing countries

All papers must report data relevant data from in-the-field projects and support their conclusion through sound scientific argumentation. No project ideas or simple case study descriptions without data collection and analysis will be considered.
